Endrendrum Punnagai is from the Tamil language and means a person who is not a liar. This film is about a man, Malli, who visited his friend in America for 10 years. He does illegal jobs to earn money during this time and becomes an expert thief making millions of dollars in the process. One day, he has to return back to his homeland to attend his sister's wedding. In order to bring his brother-in-law along with him so that they can all fly back together, he agrees on an exchange of money for passage for them both from India to America. In the process of stealing the money, Malli meets a girl named Viji and falls in love with her, as he is unable to steal from her as she is too innocent and kind. Malli decides not to steal from her and starts working at a construction site where she is working as a manager. Then, by chance, Malli's friend gets kidnapped by a man who knows his secret. He has left a bag full of money at the construction site with Viji by accident and now these guys know that he had been stealing that bag all along from the balcony of his hotel room. His friend calls him over the phone saying that they need help from him because they're being kidnapped for ransom money. He has to come to the hotel and get them back. Since Viji knows that his friend is not a liar, she agrees upon the exchange of money for them all to fly back together. They also have to split this money between them and then go their separate ways and neither will talk about it or recognize each other after that. So he goes into hiding and she opens up her own business in her house. During the time when Malli is gone, Viji's mother comes down with cancer, which changes Viji's perspective on life in a big way. She tries hard to help her mother die at home with dignity but is unable to do so because of money issues. She eventually goes to America to get money for her mother's treatment only to find that her sister has purchased it all with money that Malli's brother-in-law had stolen from their home. So, she loses the love of her life and the person who made her feel normal and secure throughout her entire life. The movie ends with a lengthy voice over by Viji: "I missed him so much. I knew he would come back." The movie went on to become a critical and commercial success at the box office, running for over 300 days in cinemas worldwide. It was dubbed into Hindi as Pyaar Ke Side Effects for release in the same market. The film's soundtrack contains 8 songs composed by Harris Jayaraj.
